Pools are for a lot more than just swimming! Sure, you probably invested in a pool for beating the hit and practicing your strokes, but the great thing about modern home pools is that they provide a wealth of opportunities for other kinds of outdoor fun. In many cases, the pool can act as more of an ambience-setter instead of the main source of activity. For many families, the pool can serve as the centerpiece of their home, a gathering spot and a place for fun and games.
There are so many possibilities, so let this list of fun things to do by your pool serve as inspiration rather than a steadfast guide.
Play Lawn Games
From traditional croquet and horseshoes to more modern ball toss games and light-up cornhole (beanbag toss) setups, lawn games are great poolside activities. And for many of them, you don’t even need a lawn! Just set things up on the patio or a clear area near the pool. For tossing games, it’s a good idea to look into floatable components in case anyone accidentally throws them in the water. People of all ages will enjoy playing lawn games around your pool.
Going along with the above, volleyball is another popular outdoor activity that brings people together of all ages. And when you have a pool, you have the option of playing both in the water and out on the lawn! One of the great things about backyard volleyball nets (whether over your pool or in the yard), is that they can be taken down easily as needed.
If you’re unsure of where a volleyball net can be installed in either location, just ask the experts at Crystal Falls Pools. We’re happy to help!
Have a Barbecue
Cooking outdoors has long been a part of American pastime culture, and grilling out is at the pinnacle of it all. Besides, setting up right by the pool lets you keep an eye on the kids and also stay cool while making sure everything is grilled to perfection. This is also a great activity for large amounts of people. Consider setting up a small bar nearby and some seating so everyone can hang out and enjoy the pool area while the barbecue is going.
If you’re unsure of the best spot to set up your grill poolside, we’re happy to consult with you. We can also supply you with various shade options to make sure everyone can still cool and relaxed whether in the pool or alongside it.
Throw a Cocktail Party
Especially if you have evening lights in and around your pool, the area can make for a unique cocktail party setting. And with an awesome pool setting, you don’t even need to do any decorating if you don’t want to! You can choose to set up food and beverages indoors or outdoors, though it’s a good idea to have at least some table surfaces outside where people can set drinks and small plates.
For fancier cocktail parties, consider renting some high-top (cocktail) tables and possibly even hiring a catering staff. They’ll be able to keep the space clean while you and your guests enjoy the ambience of the pool. Depending on how formal or casual you want your cocktail party to be, you can ask your guests to bring swimsuits so people can swim / hang out in the pool if they want to. Regardless, your poolside cocktail party is sure to be a hit!
Race Boats Across the Pool
You can have fun with your pool without swimming in it! A great activity for both adults and children, there are a lot of different remote-control boat models that you can have fun racing around the pool. Consider setting up some floating obstacles to make things even more fun.
